Therefore, people with this condition must take daily insulin injections to stay alive.

Type 2, also known as non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus is much more common, and develops gradually, most often affecting people who are forty years and over. This type is a metabolic disorder in which the body is unable to use insulin properly.


What Causes Diabetes

The first thing to know is that everyone who develops signs of diabetes is genetically predisposed to the disease, but foreign organisms that attack the body, overweight and sedentary lifestyles are the keys that activate the genes.

Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease, whereas type 2 is a metabolic disorder, and as such the mechanisms that activate them are different. In type 1 diabetes, the body’s mechanisms for protecting itself from foreign objects are turned against its own healthy tissue.

This type of diabetes often develops after an infection such as chicken pox or a cold, and after the body’s immune system has destroyed these foreign organisms, the immune system keeps on attacking, and turns to the body tissues, resulting in the destruction of the cells that produce insulin in the pancreas.

When this happens, insulin production becomes deficient. But as insulin is needed for glucose or sugar metabolism, the person affected with the autoimmune disease of type 1 diabetes will have to take insulin injections.

Type 2 diabetes on the other hand is caused primarily by insulin resistance. Insulin resistance occurs when the cells stop responding to a normal level of insulin. The mechanism of the cells become faulty and the body is forced to pump out more and more insulin. Other factors such as sleep deprivation, which makes levels of the stress hormone cortisol soar by as much as 35%, can also affect how your body uses insulin.

Overweight is yet another factor that can bring on this metabolic disorder. The extra fat in the abdomen causes the liver to produce excess glucose. This throws off how the body processes sugar, and therefore creates insulin resistance. When this happens, signs of diabetes can become apparent.


Signs Of Diabetes And Symptoms

It must be noted that early symptoms of type 2 diabetes are hardly noticeable. Some people become aware of gradually increasing fatigue. Others may notice drowsiness, but the danger is that this type of diabetes may not be noticeable until there is a serious complication.

Battle high blood sugar with Fenugreek. This herb has been used for thousands of years to treat a variety of ailments. Recent studies have confirmed that it can be used to lower blood sugar in diabetics.

When people with type 2 diabetes took fenugreek, their blood sugar levels fell significantly. The dosage that was taken to produce this effect was half a teaspoon twice a day for three months. Fenugreek can be purchased from many health food stores.


Gymnema. This is an herb that originates from India and it’s also called “sugar destroyer” It reduces blood sugar and stimulates insulin secretion. Banaba is an herb that originates from Asia and it helps increases the body’s ability to use the insulin it produces. Thirty one diabetics were given an active ingredient in banaba after which a glucose test was performed on them. Up to two hours later, the patients had lower blood sugar levels.

Another research was performed where patients were given banaba for two weeks. Their blood sugar levels dropped by a whopping thirty percent, after this short period.
